127 promotions to enforce the law through breaking the law

(Lanka-e-News, May 13, 2010, 9.20 AM) A top rung officer of the Police Dept. told Lanka e news that the appointment of 127 Police Inspectors as Assist. Superintendents of police (ASPs) by Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse is in violation of SII -5 of the Establishment code.

Of the 127 promoted, 93 of the new ASPs are promoted on seniority with effect from 2010-05-09. This top rung Officer said, among them, some have very serious problems in regard to their seniority. Of the remaining 34 promoted, disciplinary inquiries in regard to two of them have been concluded, and have therefore been appointed with effect from 01-01-2010. The other 32 have been selected on the basis of the results of the examination.

Among those 127 promoted, although 16 have been selected on their seniority and two others have been selected on exam results, there are disciplinary inquiries pending against them, the top rung officer pointed out.

These officers who have been promoted as ASPs in infringement of the Establishment code, have in the recent past been engaged not in enforcing the law in the interest of the public, rather they were preoccupied with protecting the Govt. in all the foul actions like how it happens in Libya, Iran and Myanmar run by the military junta, the top rung officer noted.
